About

Writer. Actor.
Part-time producer. Full-time feminist.

Sophia is an award-winning playwright, writer, actor, and creator.

As a playwright, she is making her professional debut at the Blyth Festival with her comedy Liars at a Funeral directed by Krista Jackson (2023). Here’s what critics are saying:

Buoyant, very funny, lively and leaves you breathless with laughing” (Lynn Slotkin)

A smashing farce by a playwright who deserves to be better known and more widely produced” (Stratford Festival Reviews)

The less one knows about the plot of “Liars at a Funeral”, the better, but it’s safe to say that Sophia Fabiilli’s hilarious new work is a real winner” (The Huron Citizen)

“Watching the Blyth Festival production of “Liars at a Funeral” is very much like watching one of those 1980s situation-comedies, with plenty of laughs, lots of moving parts, and a plethora of misunderstandings, hijinks and shenanigans” (The Kincardine Record)

Sophia was awarded the Ellen Ross Stuart Opening Doors Award through the Ontario Arts Foundation (2018), The Second City Award for Best New Comedy (2015), and numerous grants.

In 2019, Sophia graduated from the Canadian Film Centre’s Bell Media TV Writing Program in association with ABC Signature Studios, and wrote on Season 3 of Odd Squad Mobile Unit.

As an actor, she’s cast as quirky ingenues, smarty-pants sidekicks, and neurotic ladies.

Script development is one of her all-time favourite things; she has worked on multiple new play workshops with Nightwood Theatre, Litmus Theatre, Theatre Aquarius, and the Thousand Islands Playhouse.

She’s an accomplished producer and consequently a caffeine addict.

Sophia served as the Associate Artistic Director of the Thousand Islands Playhouse (2019-2021). In 2022, she made her directorial debut with Every Brilliant Thing, starring Lisa Horner.
